Holding of the Fourth TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting

- On Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Follow-up Meeting will be held in Marrakech, Morocco.
- The TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting is held once a year in Africa since the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) held in May 2008, in order to follow up on the progress of the commitments made at TICAD IV, including the doubling of official development assistance (ODA) to and supporting the doubling of private investment in Africa by 2012.
- At the Fourth TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting, discussions are scheduled to be held with a view to the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) to be held in Yokohama in June 2013.
[Reference 1] Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD)
TICAD is a political forum led by Japan themed on African development (co-hosted by the United Nations, World Bank, etc.). Since the first meeting in 1993, summit-level meetings have been consistently held in Japan every five years. The first three meetings were held in Tokyo, and the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) was held in Yokohama in May 2008. Regarding the dates and venue of the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V), Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura announced on January 20 that it will be held in Yokohama from June 1 to 3, 2013.
[Reference 2] TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting
The TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting was held in Botswana (southern region) in 2009, Tanzania (eastern region) in 2010, and Senegal (western region) in 2011. From Japan, the Minister for Foreign Affairs has attended all the meetings up to the Third TICAD Ministerial Follow-up Meeting held last year, and served as co-chair.
