Journalists Symposium 2011

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host “Journalists Symposium 2011” on Thursday, March 3, 2011, under the theme of “The Asia-Pacific Age and Japan’s Diplomacy: Viewpoints of Japanese and Foreign Media” at the Nippon Press Center Building. (Please see the attached sheet for details.)
This symposium will be attended by five Tokyo-based journalists from Australia, China (Hong Kong), the Republic of Korea, the United States and Vietnam, together with two editorial writers of Japan’s leading newspaper, to discuss Japan’s diplomacy vis-à-vis the Asia-Pacific and how Japan and the Asia-Pacific region at large should deal with global issues such as nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and climate change.
The symposium started in 1995, on the occasion of the fiftieth year since the end of World War II, with the aim of fostering further mutual understanding in the Asia-Pacific region through intellectual exchanges and dialogues. Since 2005, the symposium has addressed themes that extend beyond the Asia-Pacific region, such as “Islam” and “Africa”. This year’s symposium marks its 16th round of talks since its beginning.
