Japanese
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host “Journalists Symposium 2011” on Thursday, March 3, 2011, under the theme of “The Asia-Pacific Age and Japan’s Diplomacy: Viewpoints of Japanese and Foreign Media” at the Nippon Press Center Building. (Please see the attached sheet for details.)
- This symposium will be attended by five Tokyo-based journalists from Australia, China (Hong Kong), the Republic of Korea, the United States and Vietnam, together with two editorial writers of Japan’s leading newspaper, to discuss Japan’s diplomacy vis-à-vis the Asia-Pacific and how Japan and the Asia-Pacific region at large should deal with global issues such as nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and climate change.
- The symposium started in 1995, on the occasion of the fiftieth year since the end of World War II, with the aim of fostering further mutual understanding in the Asia-Pacific region through intellectual exchanges and dialogues. Since 2005, the symposium has addressed themes that extend beyond the Asia-Pacific region, such as “Islam” and “Africa”. This year’s symposium marks its 16th round of talks since its beginning.
