  1. The First Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to Prepare a Global Legally Binding Instrument on Mercury will take place in Stockholm, Sweden from June 7 to June 11, 2010.

  2. At this meeting, discussions will take place on possible provisions of the instrument on efforts to reduce the risk of mercury on human health and the environment. Such efforts include those to reduce the supply of mercury and enhance the capacity for its environmentally sound storage, reduce the demand for mercury in products and processes, reduce international trade of mercury, reduce atmospheric emissions of mercury, and address mercury-containing waste and remediation of contaminated sites.

  3. The Government of Japan will dispatch to this meeting a delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and the Ministry of the Environment.
