- The Third Japan-Australia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Consultations will be held on May 19 (Wed) in Tokyo.
- The Consultations will be attended, on the Japanese side, by Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Toshimi Kitazawa, Minister of Defense, and on the Australian side, by the Hon. Stephen Smith, MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Senator the Hon. John Faulkner, Minister for Defence.
- In the Consultations, the Ministers will discuss issues such as security cooperation between Japan and Australia, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, regional framework, and current regional situation.
- It is expected that the Consultations will further strengthen the strategic partnership between Japan and Australia.
