- Ms. Navanethem Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, will visit Japan from May 12 (Wed) to 15 (Sat) as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During her visit, High Commissioner Pillay will pay a courtesy call on Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan. She will also exchange opinions with Japanese government officials, including Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs, regarding topics related to human rights issues in the international community.
- It is expected that High Commissioner Pillay’s visit to Japan will further deepen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
- This is High Commissioner Pillay’s first visit to Japan since she assumed her position.
