Visit to Japan by His Excellency Mr. Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations

- His Excellency Mr. Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United
Nations, will visit Japan from June 2 (Tue) to June 5 (Fri) at the invitation
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During his visit, Mr. Annan will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister
Taro Aso and exchange opinions with him on African development and other
topics.
- Mr. Annan, as the Chairman of the Board of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), will also attend the Second General Meeting of the Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD). He is also scheduled to give a lecture at the Global Leadership Studies Commemorative Symposium to be held at the University of Tokyo.

In September 2006, AGRA is established to help millions of
small-scale farmers and their families lift themselves out of poverty and hunger.
Mr. Annan serves as its Board Chairman.
(Reference 2) Coalition for African Rice Development
(CARD)
Established by JICA and AGRA at the occasion of the TICAD IV, CARD
is a consultative group of donors, regional and international organizations
and other relevant organizations, which aim to promote rice cultivation in Africa.
