Dispatch of a Japanese Business Mission to Iraq

- A Business Mission, consisting of representatives from the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and private
companies, arrived in Baghdad on March 1(Sun), headed by Mr. Gotaro Ogawa,
Ambassador in charge of Reconstruction Assistance to Iraq.
- During its stay in Iraq, the Mission will pay a courtesy call on Prime
Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi and will exchange
views with high-level Iraqi officials of relevant ministries.
- This Mission is to provide an opportunity for the Japanese companies
which asked for the dispatch of a Mission, as a stepping stone to exchange
views directly with government leaders of Iraq for developing business in
Iraq.
- The Mission’s visit to Iraq is to crystallize the Declaration on Establishing a Comprehensive Partnership between Japan and Iraq signed on January 28, when former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Iraq as a special envoy of the Prime Minister of Japan.
