- The first meeting of the Japan-France Consultative Committee on Issues
Related to Child Custody will be held on December 1 (Tue) at the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo. Participants will include Mr. Noriteru Fukushima,
Deputy Director-General, European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
from Japan and Mr. Christophe Bouchard, Principal Director in charge of
Treaties, Civil Affairs, and Justice, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs
from France.
- The primary purpose of this Committee is to exchange information related
to issues regarding child custody and discuss between the two foreign ministers
the possibility of providing assistance to involved parties in line with
existing domestic legislation.
- At this first meeting, exchange of information about presently occurring
cases between Japan and France is to be held among other exchanges.
- The purpose of this Committee is not for the actual resolution of disputes between the involved parties. Still, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan wishes to contribute to resolving the issues related to child custody and cooperate with France within the scope of its jurisdiction.
