Invitation of Thai Officials concerned with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty to Japan
August 22, 2008
- As part of Japan’s efforts to promote an early entry into force of
the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs will invite officials of the Government of Thailand concerned with
the CTBT to Japan from August 24 (Sun) to 29 (Fri).
- The invited Thai Government officials will visit the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and the Japan Meteorological Agency to exchange views with their
counterparts. They will also visit Matsushiro Seismic Monitoring Station,
the National Data Centers and other facilities related to CTBT verification
and attend the “Twentieth United Nations Conference on Disarmament Issues
in Saitama,” which will be held during their stay in Japan.
- It is expected that the forthcoming visit of these Thai officials to Japan will further strengthen Japan-Thailand cooperative relations in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, and that it will encourage Thailand’s early ratification of the CTBT, leading to the early ratification of the countries in the Asia and Pacific region in particular that have not yet ratified the CTBT.
