Junior Eight (J8) Summit 2008 Chitose-Shikotsuko

  1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is holding a Junior Eight (J8) Summit from July 1, 2008 (Tue) to 10 (Thu) in Chitose City, where Lake Shikotsu locates, under the joint auspices of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
  2. The opening ceremony of the Summit was held at Lake Shikotsu on July 2 (Wed), attended by Mr. Itsunori Onodera, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and officials from UNICEF and Chitose City.
  3. The participants in the J8 Summit will discuss Climate Change, Poverty and Development, and Global Health from the viewpoints of children.  The results will be compiled in a ‘J8 Declaration’ and a ‘J8 Action Plan,’ and there will be an opportunity for them to be submitted to the leaders of the G8 countries on July 7 (Mon).
