Junior Eight (J8) Summit 2008 Chitose-Shikotsuko

- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is holding a Junior Eight (J8) Summit
from July 1, 2008 (Tue) to 10 (Thu) in Chitose City, where Lake Shikotsu
locates, under the joint auspices of the United Nations Children’s Fund
(UNICEF).
- The opening ceremony of the Summit was held at Lake Shikotsu on July
2 (Wed), attended by Mr. Itsunori Onodera, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign
Affairs, and officials from UNICEF and Chitose City.
- The participants in the J8 Summit will discuss Climate Change, Poverty and Development, and Global Health from the viewpoints of children. The results will be compiled in a ‘J8 Declaration’ and a ‘J8 Action Plan,’ and there will be an opportunity for them to be submitted to the leaders of the G8 countries on July 7 (Mon).
