The 10th Meeting of the “United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation”

- The 10th Meeting of the “United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory
Board on Water and Sanitation” (UNSGAB) will be held from May 26 (Mon)
to 28 (Wed) in Tokyo.
- The Advisory Board was established as an independent body to provide
recommendations to the United Nations Secretary-General and the international
community concerning how the latter should respond to challenges in the
water and sanitation sector. It comprises 21 members including former
ministers, experts who served as heads of international organizations, and
representatives of the NGOs. H.I.H. the Crown Prince of Japan is the
Honorary President of the Board, while H.R.H. Willem Alexander, the Prince
of Orange, is the Chair.
- At the forthcoming Board Meeting, there will be discussions for further
implementation of the “Hashimoto Action Plan” launched at the 2006 World
Water Forum. In addition, Dialogue with Japan, and the Dialogue with
African Leaders will be held as outreach activities.
- At the opening session and the Dialogue with Japan, dignitaries and high-level officials of the Government of Japan will attend from the Japanese side, and there will be exchange of views toward implementation of the “Hashimoto Action Plan.”
