Visit to Japan of Iraqi Wrestling Team

  1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will invite a wrestling team of 17 persons from the Republic of Iraq from August 27 (Mon) to September 13 (Thu) under its Sports Exchange Program FY2007.
     
  2. During their stay in Japan, the team members will have joint training and friendship matches with members of the All Japan Wrestling team and university teams, in cooperation with the Japan Wrestling Federation.
     
  3. This program is carried out at a time when wrestling has been gaining higher attention in and out of Japan, as women’s wrestling has been an official Olympic competition since the 2004 Athens Olympics and Japanese wrestling players have been performing brilliantly in international matches.
     
  4. It is hoped that this invitation will further enhance friendly relations with Iraq and promote further understanding of Japan.
