Japan-U.S. High-Level Consultations on Climate Change

- The ‘Japan-U.S. High-Level Consultations on Climate Change’ will
be held in Tokyo (at Mita House) on August 8 (Wed).
- This meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Ambassador
Koji Tsuruoka, Director-General for Global Issues, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Mr. Hajime Ito, Deputy Director-General for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry
of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Ryutaro Yatsu, Councilor for Global
Environment, Ministry of the Environment, and other officials, and on the American
side by Mr. James L. Connaughton, Chairman, Council on Environmental Quality
(CEQ), and Dr. Paula J. Dobriansky, Under Secretary for Democracy and Global
Affairs, Department of State and other officials.
- This meeting will be held on the two leaders’ agreement to
enhance, strengthen and streamline the bilateral dialogue on climate change,
which was included in the ‘US-Japan Joint Statement on Energy Security, Clean
Development and Climate Change’ released in April this year, when Mr. Shinzo
Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, visited the United States.
- Both sides will discuss a range of issues, including long-term goals and future undertakings in the international arena.
