The 12th Meeting of the Japan-US Joint Working Level Committee (JWLC) on Cooperation in Science and Technology

- The 12th meeting of the Japan-US Joint Working Level Committee (JWLC)
on Cooperation in Science and Technology will be held on July 18 (Wed) in
Tokyo (Mita House).
- The meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Takeshi Nakane,
Director-General (Ambassador), Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science
Department, Foreign Ministry, as Head of the Japanese Delegation, and other
officials concerned from that ministry, the Cabinet Secretariat, the Cabinet
Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology,
the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and others, and on the US side
by Mr. Bruce Howard, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of State,
as Head of the US Delegation, and others concerned from that department,
the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Energy, the National
Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration (NOAA) and the National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the Department of Commerce, and others.
- The Committee will discuss current developments in science and technology policies in Japan and the US; cooperation in science and technology for a safe and secure society; and Japan-US cooperation in such fields as earth and environmental science, nanotechnology, energy and exchange of researchers.
