Invitation Program for Colombians concerned with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT)
January 17, 2007
- A delegation of three persons who have great influence on Colombia's ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), headed by Dr. Marta Lucia Ramirez, Chairperson of the Colombian Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, will visit Japan from January 23 (Tue) to 31 (Wed), at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. This invitation is a part of Japan's efforts to facilitate the early entry-into-force of the Treaty.
- The delegation headed by Dr. Ramirez will have talks with relevant officials of the Government of Japan such as Mr. Katsuhito Asano, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Tetsu Hiraki, Director-General of the Japan Meteorological Agency, and others, and visit Japan's institutions relevant to the verification of the CTBT. Colombia is one of the states, whose ratification is required for the entry-into-force of the Treaty; it signed the CTBT in 1996 but has not ratified it yet.
- It is expected that the visit to Japan by this delegation headed by Dr. Ramirez will further strengthen cooperative relations between Japan and Colombia in the fields of disarmament and non-proliferation.
