Visit to Japan by Mr. Alexander Downer, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia

1. Mr. Alexander Downer, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, will visit Japan from July 31 (Mon) to August 2 (Wed).
2. During his stay, Mr. Downer will have talks with Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and others to exchange opinions on bilateral relations and the international situation.
3. It is expected that the diplomatic relations between Japan and Australia will further develop through the forthcoming visit by Mr. Downer, at a time when "2006 Australia-Japan Year of Exchange", commemorating the 30th year of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation between Japan and Australia, is being held.
