Visit to Japan of Ambassador Tóth, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO)

- Ambassador Tibor Tóth, Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), will visit Japan from August 1 (Tue) to 7 (Mon) at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During his stay in Japan, Ambassador Tóth will exchange views with Mr. Katsutoshi Kaneda, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and other officials on such matters as facilitating the entry into force of the CTBT. He will also have meetings with Dr. Tetsu Hiraki, Director-General of the Japan Meteorological Agency, and officials of other related organizations to exchange views on the establishment of the verification system for monitoring nuclear testing which is stipulated in the Treaty. Ambassador Tóth will also attend the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima on August 6 (Sun).
- Japan attaches great importance to the early entry into force of the CTBT from the perspective of maintaining and strengthening the international disarmament and non-proliferation regime based on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The visit is expected to promote the understanding of Japan's positive approach toward facilitating the entry into force of the CTBT, and to further strengthen cooperative relations between the Preparatory Commission for the CTBTO and Japan.
