-- Partnership for Human Security --
March 8, 2006
- The Third Japan-WFP (World Food Programme) Annual Policy Consultation will be held on March 16 (Thu) in Tokyo (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
- The Consultation will be attended by Mr. Takahiro Shinyo, Director-General (Ambassador) of the Global Issues Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Japanese side, and by Mr. John Powell, Deputy Executive Director of the WFP.
- As one of the major organizations for humanitarian assistance in the United Nations, the WFP undertakes about half of worldwide food aid, and Japan has been providing proactive assistance to the WFP as a major donor. The Policy Consultation began in 2004 to strengthen cooperation between Japan and the WFP, based on the Human Security Concept. At the upcoming Consultation, the participants will exchange views on wide-ranging issues, including the present situation of WFP food aid and the future cooperative relationship between the WFP and Japan.
