Visit to Japan by Mr. António Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

  1. Mr. António Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will visit Japan from December 4 (Mon) to 6 (Wed) as Guest of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
  2. During his stay in Japan, Mr. Guterres will exchange views with Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and other government officials. He will also take part in a symposium concerning human security.
  3. In cooperation with UNHCR, Japan has been extending humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally-displaced persons and other afflicted people in the world. It is expected that the forthcoming visit to Japan by Mr. Guterres will further strengthen cooperative relations between Japan and the UNHCR.
  4. This will Mr. Guterres' second visit to Japan as UNHCR since October 2005.
