Symposium "Recent Trend of the Management of Marine Living Resources: Sustainable Use and Application of Precautionary Approach"

- On February 16 (Thu) a symposium "Recent Trend of the Management of Marine Living Resources: Sustainable Use and Application of Precautionary Approach" will be held in Tokyo (Mita House) under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Association for Comparative Study of Legal Cultures.
- The symposium will be attended on the Japanese side by Professor Hiroyuki Matsuda, Faculty of Environment and Information Sciences, Yokohama National University; and from abroad Dr. Jonathan Hutton, Chair of Sustainable Use Special Group, Species Survival Commission, IUCN, and Dr. Rosie Cooney, Coordinator of Precautionary Principle Project. They will each give a presentation and will also take part in a panel discussion (Moderator: Dr. Yoshio Kaneko, Director of Global Guardian Trust).
Interested parties from embassies in Tokyo, researchers, students and NGOs will also participate in the symposium. - With the participation of experts from various circles, it is expected that discussion will be held on the desirable and practicable management and issues of marine living resources from the viewpoint of their sustainable use, taking into account the recent trend of new management methods such as "precautionary approach" and "ecosystem approach".
