Visit to Japan of Ms. Karen Koning AbuZayd, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)

- Ms. Karen Koning AbuZayd, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), will visit Japan from January 15 (Sun) to 18 (Wed).
- During her stay in Japan, Ms. AbuZayd will meet with the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, key officials of the Government of Japan, and the members of the Japanese Palestinian Parliamentarians' Friendship League to exchange wide-ranging views on measures to assist the Palestinian refugees in the wake of the progress made in the Middle East peace process, such as the successful disengagement from the Gaza Strip. Ms. AbuZayd will also give a lecture at Waseda University on the "Palestinian refugees in Changing Political and Socio-economic Circumstances" and engage in publicity activities through major Japanese media.
- It is expected that through her visit, the cooperative relationship between Japan and the UNRWA, based on the principle of "human security", will be strengthened.
