Mr. Tommy Thompson, Chair Emeritus of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), to Visit Japan

- From June 29 (Wed) to July 3 (Sun), Mr. Tommy Thompson, Chair Emeritus of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) (Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) will visit Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During his visit to Japan, Mr. Thompson will deliver a keynote speech at the Commemorative Symposium on the Fifth Anniversary of the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit hosted by Friends of the Global Fund, Japan. He will also visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and others; and will also exchange views with key figures of Nippon Keidanren, Friends of the Global Fund, Japan, Task Force of the Diet Members for Friends of the Global Fund, Japan, and other organizations to ask for the further understanding and support of the Japanese government and the private sector for the problems of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and to promote exchanges between Japan and the U.S. to support GFATM.
- For his excellent management as Chair of the GFATM Board in the formative years of GFATM until April this year, Mr. Thompson was awarded the title of Chair Emeritus of the Board. This will be his first visit to Japan as Chair Emeritus, followed by his visit in March last year as Chair of the GFATM Board.
