Visit to Japan by Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations

  1. Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, will pay a working visit to Japan from February 21 (Sat) to 25 (Wed) upon the invitation by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

  2. During his stay in Japan, Mr. Annan will be received by His Majesty The Emperor of Japan. The Secretary-General will also meet with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi to have a close exchange of views on matters confronting the international community, such as Iraqi affairs and UN reform. Mr. Annan is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the Diet.

  3. The Secretary-General's visit to Japan is expected to further promote the cooperative relationship between Japan and the UN toward a strengthened international framework centered on the UN.
