Third Japan-U.S. High Level Consultation Meeting on Climate Change

  1. The Third Japan-U.S. High Level Consultation Meeting on Climate Change will be held on August 7 (Thu) in Washington, D.C.

  2. The Meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Shunichi Suzuki, Minister of the Environment, head of the Japanese delegation, Mr. Yoshiki Mine, Ambassador in charge of Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hironori Hamanaka, Vice Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Yuzo Ichikawa, Deputy Director-General for Environmental Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and other officials; and on the U.S. side by Mr. Jim Connaughton, Chairman, Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ), Ms. Paula Dobriansky, Under Secretary for Global Affairs, Department of State, Mr. Steven Johnson, Acting Deputy Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency, and other key figures.

  3. The Meeting will discuss Japan-U.S. cooperation on climate change, an urgent global issue.

  4. These Consultations were started following the proposal made by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi at the Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting held on June 30, 2001. The first Meeting was held in July 2001 in Washington, D.C., and the second in April 2002 in Tokyo.
