Preparatory Meeting for the Third Japan-PIF Summit Meeting (PALM 2003)

  1. The Government of Japan will hold a preparatory meeting for the Third Japan-PIF Summit Meeting (PALM 2003) on March 6 (Thu) and 7 (Fri) in Tokyo (Mita House).

  2. The preparatory meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by: Mr. Eisuke Hinode, Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and other officials; from the 16 member countries and regions by: aides of the heads of these countries and regions, including a minister.

  3. At this meeting, Mr. Hinode will deliver an opening statement, and the participants will hold consultations on various issues to be on the agenda of the Japan-PIF Summit Meeting, including security, trade and investment, environment, education and capacity building, health, etc. On the second day of the meeting, NGOs (non-governmental organizations) will also participate to discuss how Japan and the PIF members should tackle the agenda, focusing on such issues related to conservation of natural environment as segregated disposal and recycling of wastes, coral reefs and mangrove swamps.
