The 11th Japan-EU Summit

- The 11th Japan-European Union (EU) Summit will be held on July 8 (Mon) at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Tokyo.
- The Summit will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, Prime Minister, and others, and on the EU side by Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Prime Minister of Denmark, Presidency of the EU, Mr. Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission, and others.
- At the Summit, the leaders of Japan and the EU will put forward observations on their domestic situations and exchange views on wide-ranging issues, including the present international situation of mutual concern, promotion of Japan-EU cooperation through the implementation of the "Action Plan for EU-Japan Cooperation" which was issued in last December at the 10th Japan-EU Summit.
- After the Summit, there will be a joint press conference by the leaders of Japan and the EU, and there will also be a bilateral meeting between the leaders of Japan and Denmark at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. With a view to strengthening personal cooperative relations between Presidency of the EU for six months starting from July, the two leaders will exchange views on the fourth summit meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in September this year in Denmark, bilateral economic relations, mutual visits of VIPs, grass-roots interchange, and other matters.
- There will also be a meeting between Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Pascal Lamy, European Commissioner for Trade.
- On this occasion, the EU-Japan Business Dialogue Roundtable (EUJBDRT), a forum for dialogue between Japanese and European business leaders, will take place on 7-9 July in Tokyo. The co-chairs of the EUJBDRT will submit their recommendations to Prime Minister Koizumi, Prime Minister Rasmussen and President Prodi. Mr. Shigeo Uetake, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, will attend part of the EUJBDRT meeting.
