"Economy and Society" Working Group Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC)

- The "Economy and Society" Working Group of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) will be held on March 7 (Thu) and 8 (Fri) at Mita Kaigisho, in Tokyo.
- Experts in economic and social areas or representatives from 15 Latin American countries, including Brazil, and 15 East Asian countries, including China, will participate in the meeting.
- This working group is one of the three working groups agreed to be established at the First FEALAC Ministerial Meeting held in Chile in March last year, where Japan and Peru agreed to co-chair the working group. The moderators of the meeting will be Professor Akio Hosono of Kobe University on the Japanese side and Professor Alan Fairlie of Católica University on the Peruvian side. The working group will analyze issues common to both East Asian and Latin American countries in the economic and social fields and will discuss how the two regions can strengthen their relationship in the future. The outcome of this meeting along with that of the discussion of the Second Working Group will be reported at the Second Ministerial Meeting to be held in the Philippines in 2003.
