Visit to Japan by High Level EU Mission on Environment concerning the Kyoto Protocol

- A High Level EU Mission on Environment concerning the Kyoto Protocol will visit Japan from 9 (Mon) to 10 (Tue) July to exchange views with the Government of Japan toward the resumed sixth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP6).
- The High Level Mission will include Ms. Lena Hjelm-Wallen, Deputy Prime
Minister, and Mr. Lars Danielsson, Vice Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, both from Sweden, the EU presidency in the first half of this year; Mr. Olivier Deleuze, State Secretary for Energy and Sustainable Development of Belgium, the EU presidency in the latter half of this year, as well as Ms. Margot Wallström, European Commissioner for the Environment.
- During their stay in Japan, the member of the Mission will pay a courtesy call on
Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, Prime Minister, and Ms. Makiko Tanaka, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and attend a luncheon hosted by Mr. Shigeo Uetake, Senior State Secretary for Foreign Affairs. They will also meet Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister of the Environment, and in the evening of the same day, will conduct a joint press conference with the Government of Japan.
