  1. African Festa 2001 will be held on March 24 (Sat) and 25 (Sun) in Hibiya Park, Tokyo, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and under the auspices of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and African embassies in Tokyo.

  2. During African Festa 2001, there will be a talk show by Mr. Sadao Watanabe, a jazz musician, and Mr. Susumu Hani, a film director, about their experiences in Africa, concerts by the Bheki Khoza Group of South Africa and other groups including Dr. Umezu Kiki Band, which gave successful public performances in Africa in 1999, and African fashion shows featuring a group of ladies from African embassies in Tokyo on the main stage. In the tents near the stage, there will be a variety of programs such as dance and music workshops, NGO booths which introduce Africa through their experiences, and exhibitions by African embassies in Tokyo.

  3. In response to the Second Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD II) that was held in October 1998 under the co-sponsorship of the Government of Japan, the United Nations and other organizations, this event is intended to give Japanese people a deeper understanding of Africa, foster their sense of affinity with Africa, and further promote international exchange with the region. This will be the first outdoor event stemming from TICAD II to be held in the Metropolitan region.
