Visit to Japan by Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Mrs. Nane Annan

- Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Nane Annan, and a suite, will visit Japan from January 22 (Mon) to 25 (Thu) as guest of the Foreign Minister of Japan.
- During their stay in Japan, the Secretary-General and Mrs. Annan will meet with Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan. The Secretary General will also have talks with Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, Foreign Minister Yohei Kono, and other government officials to exchange views on current issues involving the United Nations.
- The Government of Japan heartily welcomes the forthcoming visit of Mr. Annan, which is expected to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the U.N., and considers it to be significant for Japan, aiming as it does to shoulder even greater responsibility in its contributions to the U.N. in the 21st century.
