Foreign Minister Yohei Kono to Visit China

- Mr. Yohei Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will visit China from August 28 (Mon) to 31 (Thu).
- During his stay in China, Mr. Kono will have ministerial talks with Mr. Tang Jiaxuan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China; and pay courtesy calls on Mr. Jiang Zemin, President, and Mr. Zhu Rongji, Premier of the State Council. Mr. Kono will also meet with Mr. Qian Qichen, Vice Premier of the State Council, and other key officials. Mr. Kono will exchange candid views with the Chinese side mainly on the following three issues: (1) preparations for the visit to Japan by Mr. Zhu Rongji, Premier of the State Council, which is scheduled to take place in October this year, (2) issues that need to be dealt with by both Japan and China, including the activities of Chinese marine research vessels and Chinese Navy vessels, and (3) the regional situation in the Korean peninsula and other areas.
