Meeting of the G8 Senior Experts Group on Transnational Organized Crime (Lyon Group)

- A meeting of the G8 Senior Experts Group on Transnational Organized Crime (Lyon Group) will take place from 14 (Tue) to 16 (Thu) November in Hiroshima (some subgroup meetings will be held until 17).
- This meeting will be attended by senior experts (director-general- level officials of foreign, justice, and interior ministries) in transnational organized crime from the G8 countries and the European Union. The participants from Japan will include officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
- The G8 Communique Okinawa 2000 of the Kyushu-Okinawa G8 Summit Meeting requests the Lyon Group to discuss high-tech crimes, corruption, judicial cooperation, and issues in other areas, and at the forthcoming Lyon Group meeting the Group will examine how to deal with these issues. The results of the meeting are expected to be reflected in the discussions at the Genova Summit to be held next year.
- The forthcoming meeting will be the last of this year's Lyon Group meetings hosted by Japan (chaired by Mr. Toshinori Kanemoto, President of the National Police Academy); the first meeting was held in February in Tokyo, and the second in May in Kyoto.
