Visit to Japan by Mr. Algirdas Saudargas, Foreign Minister of Lithuania

March 12, 1999

1. Mr. Algirdas Saudargas, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, accompanied by a suite, will visit Japan as an official guest of the Government of Japan from Tuesday, March 16 through Friday, March 19. The purpose of the visit will be to celebrate the official opening of the Embassy of Lithuania in Tokyo. In the evening of March 16, The Lithuanian National Folk Dance Company "Lietuva." is scheduled to give a commemorative performance in the presence of important figures from many fields.

2. During his stay in Japan, Mr. Saudargas will meet with Foreign Minister Masahiko Koumura, senior government officials, and leading figures from private economic circles and others to exchange views on various matters including the promotion of a bilateral relationship and economic exchange.

3. This is the first visit of a Foreign Minister of Lithuania.
