Visit to Japan by Mr. Li Ruihuan, Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, People's Republic of China

- Mr. Li Ruihuan, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, People's Republic of China, will pay an official visit to Japan from December 8 (Wed) to 16 (Thu), 1999 at the invitation of the Government of Japan.
- During his stay in Japan, the Chairman will be received in audience by His Majesty The Emperor of Japan, pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi, and have talks with Mr. Soichiro Ito, President of the House of Councillors, and Mr. Juro Saito, Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Chairman will also meet Foreign Minister Yohei Kono. He will also have exchanges with persons in Japanese political parties, economic organizations, and friendship associations, and will make a regional tour from 11 (Sat).
- The Chairman ranks fourth in the Chinese Communist Party, and he is the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Japan this year. This will be the first official visit to Japan as Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Mr. Li has visited Japan when he was a Mayor of Tianjin Municipality and a Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party in the Tianjin Municipal Committee.
