Statement by the Press Secretary on the Terrorist Bombing in Jerusalem
September 5, 1997
- The Government of Japan received the report with great anger and deep sadness that many fatalities and injuries were inflicted on innocent civilians, by the terrorist bombing a the pedestrian mall in Jerusalem on September 4. Japan expresses its deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and the citizens of Israel, and heartfelt sympathy to the many who are injured.
- Terrorism cannot be justified by any reason, nor does it bring about any solution. All in this world should resolutely fight against such contemptible acts.
- Japan strongly hopes that the parties involved in the peace process will not be discouraged by pressure of terrorism, making efforts to further strengthen the security cooperation, and that they bravely continue the serious efforts to seek peace.
