Emergency Assistance for the Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster in Solomon Islands

- On February 6, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale occurred in the offshore of Nendo Island of Santa Cruz Islands in Solomon Islands. According to the Solomon Islands Government's report on February 11, 10 people were reported dead and 2,434 people were affected so far. Approximately 600 houses have been collapsed or damaged and many residents have been evacuated.
- On February 7, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed his sympathy to Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo for the earthquake and tsunami disaster.
- In response to the request from the Government of Solomon Islands, the Government of Japan decided to provide possible assistance in light of friendly relations between Japan and Solomon Islands, and is considering the content of assistance.
