Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the participation in the infrastructure building work in the Northern Territories by an enterprise of a third country

1. It has become evident that the ROK enterprise Keumto Construction Co., Ltd., participates in work to build port infrastructure in Nayoka port on Etorofu Island.
   
   
2. Any act by an enterprise of a third country in the Northern Territories which can be interpreted as following the Russian jurisdiction, such as economic activities, is not compatible with Japan’s position concerning the Northern Territories.
   
   
3. We express our strong regret over the activities of this Korean enterprise, which run counter to the position of Japan.
