Wednesday, March 21, the TICAD V Secretariat was established under the Director-General for Sub-Saharan African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Secretariat will carry out the overall operations including logistics for TICAD V, which will be held from June 1 to 3, 2013, in Yokohama.

A Japan-led policy forum focusing on the development of Africa (co-organized by the United Nations, the World Bank, and the Commission of the African Union (AU), among others). A summit meeting has been held once in five years in Japan since its first conference in 1993. The first to third conferences were held in Tokyo and the 4th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) was held in Yokohama in May 2008. In terms of the date and location for TICAD V, Mr. Osamu Fujimura, the Chief Cabinet Secretary, announced on January 20 that the conference is scheduled to be held in Yokohama from June 1 to 3, 2013.
