Emergency Grant Aid for the Flood Disaster in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

On Thursday November 22, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid of 4.7 million US dollars (approximately 380 million yen) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in response to the disastrous floods caused by the unprecedented heavy rain, in addition to the emergency relief goods, which had already been announced on November 9.
  2. Pakistan has been hit by heavy rain since mid-August, which caused floods in southern Punjab, northern Sindh and north-eastern Balochistan, forcing many people to evacuate by destroying houses and other facilities, as well as submerging farmland. According to the Pakistani Government’s statement on November 7, 474 people were reported dead and approximately 5.04 million (including approximately 160,000 evacuees) were affected so far.

 On November 9, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency relief goods (tents, blankets, and plastic sheets) worth up to 35 million yen to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
