Emergency Assistance for the Earthquake Disaster in Myanmar

- On November 21, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency relief goods (blankets, sleeping pads, plastic sheets, and generators) worth 10 million yen (around 125,000 US dollars) to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the earthquake disaster in Myanmar.
- On November 11, an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale occurred in the central area of Myanmar. According to the Myanmar Government's report on November 15, 16 people were reported dead and approximately 800 people were affected so far. There is no major aftershock in the region, however, more than 500 houses have been collapsed or damaged and many residents have been evacuated.
- In response to the request from the Government of Myanmar, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the affected as well as in light of long-standing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
