- On Wednesday, January 11 (Tuesday, January 10, local time), Mr. Ryuji Yamane, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the inauguration ceremony of H.E. Mr. Daniel Ortega, President of the Republic of Nicaragua, held in Managua, as a Special Envoy of Japan.
- President Ortega expressed gratitude for Japan's economic cooperation in a speech at the inauguration ceremony. Senior Vice-Minister Yamane congratulated President Ortega in person at the ceremony.
- Senior Vice-Minister Yamane took this occasion to hold talks with Mr. Moises Halleslevens, Vice President of the Republic of Nicaragua.
- At the meeting, Senior Vice-Minister Yamane conveyed his congratulations on the inauguration of President Ortega and Vice President Halleslevens, along with expressing gratitude for the sympathy shown by the people of Nicaragua at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake and explaining Japan's reconstruction efforts. He also showed his expectation that Nicaragua will act in cooperation with the international community. Vice President Halleslevens expressed gratitude for the economic cooperation which Japan had been extending, and voiced his determination upon the launch of a new administration. Additionally, both sides exchanged opinions on cooperation in the international arena, including the issue of abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea, and policies to further strengthen the Japan-Nicaragua bilateral relations.
- In addition, Senior Vice-Minister Yamane held talks with Mr. Samuel Santos López, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Nicaragua, and the reappointed Nicaragua National Assembly President René Nuñez Téllez.
