Assistance to the Training for Candidates of Afghan National Police Officers in Turkey

  1. As a part of its pledge to provide up to around 5 billion US dollars within about 5 years to support Afghanistan, Japan will provide assistance to a training program for approximately 500 candidates of Afghan National Police officers. This assistance aims to contribute to the development and capacity building of the Afghan police maintaining security in Afghanistan. The training will start on July 25, 2011, in "Sivas Police Training Center" in Sivas, Turkey, and will last for six months.

  2. Japan will contribute 3 million US dollars for this training and dispatch six police officers (Judo trainers) to Turkey as JICA short-term experts in order to provide Judo training to candidates of Afghan Police officers from July 25 to October 7, 2011.

  3. It is expected that this cooperation with Turkey will have a beneficial impact on the urgent task of improving the security situation in Afghanistan.
