Emergency Grant Aid in Response to Famine in the "Horn of Africa"
July 15, 2011
- On Friday, July 15, in response to the serious famine caused by drought and other factors in the "Horn of Africa" in the East African region, the Government of Japan has decided to extend emergency grant aid of 5 million dollars for food assistance in cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP) from a humanitarian point of view.
- This assistance will be provided as swift response to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's call for assistance for the "Horn of Africa" made on July 12, while also responding to the warm support Japan received from African countries in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
