- Following the Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake, H.E. Amb. Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, Minister of External Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil, has announced that the Government of Brazil will donate USD500,000 (approximately JPY40 million) as relief money to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
- From Brazil, letters of condolences and sympathy were sent from H.E. Ms. Dilma Vana Rousseff, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, and Foreign Minister Patriota to Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeaki Matsumoto respectively. In addition, words of sympathy and the intention to assist have been expressed at various levels. Also, on Thursday, March 17, during the Japan-Brazil Foreign Ministers' Telephone Conversation held at the initiative of Foreign Minister Patriota, words of sympathy as well as expression of solidarity and assistance were extended from the Brazilian side. The Government of Japan deeply appreciates the Government and the people of Brazil for their expression of solidarity and a great deal of assistance.
