  1. Today (Thursday, March 17), Mr. Chiaki Takahashi, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Chavanond Intarakomalyasut, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

  2. State Secretary Takahashi expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Thailand’s donation of 20,000 blankets, commenting that a friend in need is a friend indeed. He stated that he believed the blankets would be extremely useful considering the coldness of the area affected by the Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake, and that he wanted to work in close contact with the Royal Thai Embassy in Japan to ensure the safety of all Thai citizens in Japan.

  3. In response, Secretary Chavanond expressed condolences for those who suffered from the earthquake, noting that the Thai Royal Family, Government and people all wished to support Japan. He stated that the blankets were a gift from H.R.H. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and the Thai Government had formulated 200 million baht supplementary budget at the emergency Cabinet meeting and expressed Thai Government would continue to provide support to Japan within this budget.
