The International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Global Meeting

- The Government of Japan, together with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), held the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Global Meeting (IGM) in Kobe, Japan during 14-16 September.
- More than 200 search and rescue specialists from 70 countries and 7 international and other organizations participated in discussions on issues such as capacity building of national search and rescue teams, cooperation during transition from search and rescue phase to humanitarian relief operations phase, further collaboration with various humanitarian relief organizations, and strengthening intra-regional cooperation. IGM adopted “INSARAG Hyogo Declaration” as the outcome of the discussions.
- The Government of Japan, as the host of the IGM, will actively implement “INSARAG Hyogo Declaration” and expand awareness of it.

INSARAG is a global network of more than 80 countries and disaster response organizations under the United Nations umbrella. INSARAG deals with urban search and rescue (USAR) related issues. INSARAG aims at establishing standards for international USAR teams and methodology for international coordination in disaster response.
