Statement by Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on Agreement in Principle on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the Republic of India

  1. Great progress was made during discussions at the 14th round of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the Republic of India held on September 9 (Thu.), and as the  result, the both sides confirmed that they reached an Agreement in Principle.

  2. By completing the Agreement, Japan and India will mutually become each others’ greatest bilateral trade EPA partners, and the Agreement will strengthen the economic relationship between Japan and India, which has been making tremendous economic growth in recent years.

  3. Japan will make every effort toward the early conclusion of the Agreement by actively carrying out necessary works to finalize the text of the Agreement.
