Statement by Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Rejection by Committee I of the Proposal to List Atlantic Bluefin Tuna in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix I

  1. On March 18 (Thu), the proposal by Monaco to list Atlantic bluefin tuna in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix I and the amendment by EU were rejected by Committee I at the Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CITES held in Doha, Qatar. The Government of Japan welcomes this decision.

  2. Japan will continue making effort to deepen understanding of its position so that the recommendation of Committee I to reject the proposal by Monaco and the EU amendment will be adopted at the Plenary Session to be held on March 24 and 25.
