Emergency Assistance in response to the Hurricane Disaster in the Caribbean States

  1. On November 8 (Mon), the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency relief goods (generator, water purifier etc), equivalent to approximately 8 million yen and 7 million yen to Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, respectively, in response to the damages caused by Hurricane Tomas.

  2. The Hurricane Tomas left Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with no less than 5 people dead, 20,000 affected as well as 900 houses damaged. In addition, in Saint Lucia, the whole country has been suffering from a serious damage of water supply.

  3. At the requests of the Governments of Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance from a humanitarian viewpoint and in the light of friendly bilateral relations between Japan and Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
