Dispatch of a Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team in response to damage from the eruptions of Mt. Merapi on Central Java Island in Indonesia

- On November 8 (Mon), the Government of Japan received a request from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to send volcanologists in the wake of damage from the eruptions of Mt. Merapi on Central Java Island.
- In response to this request, the Government of Japan has decided to dispatch a Japan Disaster Relief expert team comprising volcanologists and other experts.
- A volcanologist is scheduled to leave Japan for Indonesia on November 9 (Tue) and two more on November 10 (Wed).
- Due to the large-scale eruptions of Mt. Merapi continuing since October 26, the areas under evacuation orders have widened, leaving more than 140 people dead and causing more than 270,000 people to evacuate.
